Lead Me, Lord

A few minutes ago, I was having a lil chat with God about planning.  If I have updated you on my life lately, it's almost laughable how many of my plans have been turned upside down.  While half of me thinks I've inherited my dad's old nickname of "Schlep Rock" (Aka "One who is said to be unlucky or extremely unfortunate"), I also am realizing what God is teaching me.

Right after I asked God to continue to give me clarity and direction in certain areas of my life, I opened up my Bible to Luke 22.  Sometimes it's crazy how directly He speaks to us through His word.  Starting in verse 7, Jesus is commanding His disciples to go to town and prepare for the Passover.  The disciples ask, "Where do you want us to prepare?" and Jesus simply told them to just go and ask.

I thought I would be staying home all summer with a nice local practicum near my friends and family.  Instead, God decided I would be going to a different city where I don't know anyone, pretty last minute.  I asked similar questions as the disciples- such as "Where do I go? Where do I stay?" (Also questions like: "Are you kidding me!?--I'm still working on this, y'all)

Even with my doubting questions, however, God answered in the same way Jesus answered His disciples.  He simply told me to go.  Like always, God provided me with shelter and a wonderful experience-one I could not have gotten if it weren't for His intervention!

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I like to plan and have things in control.  God is showing me that while my tendency to plan is nice and all, He IS the greatest of planners and I should be glad I'm not in control.

I don't know what God is calling you to do right now; maybe it's to move to a new city, maybe it's to get in or out of a relationship, maybe it's to follow through on that career He is calling you to- but whatever it is, I suggest you GO!

God calls us to do some hard things.  Whatever He is calling you to might be scary or hard or uncomfortable, but He is calling you to walk through it for a reason.  I was reminded this week about the true meaning of Philippians 4:13:

"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength".

This verse isn't saying you can have super powers and conquer the world, but it's saying that through Christ, you CAN get through that hard, scary season of life.  You can survive that heartbreak, make that scary move, and follow Him completely.

Let's get back to Luke 22.  While Christ's request to go blindly to a city and find where to prepare for passover may have been a scary or uncomfortable request to His disciples, Christ was hours away from something far scarier.

They were preparing for the Last Supper; Christ was about to give His life for His disciples, for His loved ones, for US.

No matter what Christ is calling you to do, He has already done the hard part.  He HAS conquered the world, so you don't have to.  He is just providing you opportunities to share His unthinkable, INCREDIBLE gift He has given us- ETERNAL FREEDOM!

Let's remember that we are now called to be His disciples and GO wherever He leads us!  Through Him, we can do it!

Matthew 28: 16-20
The 11 disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them.  When they saw Him, they worshiped, but some doubted. Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Ignored Instructions

My favorite way to feel close to God has always been by writing down things I am learning about Him as well as areas I am growing or struggling.  I haven't written in right at a year, which is an honest insight to where my faith has been over the last year.   To be honest, I have spent the better part of last year dealing with some anger towards God.  There were so many nights of begging God to answer me and not understanding why it felt like He was not helping me out in the slightest.  I prayed for Him to show me how to handle situations and for clarity on the direction that my life was going.  I wanted an audible "yes this is correct", but instead I misunderstood His "no" and confused it for silence. Truthfully looking back at myself this time last year, the best example I can give is someone angrily throwing tools across the room because they can't figure out how to build the piece of furniture... with the instructions sitting unread and ignored next to ...

Feeling Safe

I usually choose to write when life feels the hardest in order to process my own feelings and hope that it can help even one person turn to Jesus with their own struggles, and this post is no different. Life has so many waves of ups and downs, and the downs can feel suffocating. Letting go of people in our lives can be one of the deepest downs we face.  Goodbyes are a part of life for so many different reasons, but they can be so hard.  Some are needed, some are unexpected, some are confusing- but typically they are all hard.  No matter the situation, a loss threatens our sense of safety, our sense of identity, sometimes our self worth, and can have so many affects on our day to day lives, no matter the size of the loss. Sometimes through difficulties, God can seem really far away.  Not understanding why things are happening and feeling alone can lead to feeling like God isn't listening or doesn't care.  It feels like an extra betrayal on top of the pain life is...

Unexpected Path

Life is constant cycle of highs and lows.  Some days it's easy to feel on top of the world, like everything is going perfectly as planned- that sense of thriving.  Other days are hard.  They can include gut wrenching pain, the numb feeling of loneliness, or the anxiously waiting on answers that feel like they may never come. I think a lot of the pain in life comes from things not going as planned.  Whether it is a tragic unexpected loss or the dull feeling of being stuck in a season of waiting, these disruptions to what we are wanting and searching for can cause the most doubt. Jeremiah 29:11 is a verse I reference a lot-" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."   While this verse usually brings comfort, it honestly makes me angry sometimes.  It's easy to read it and think to myself "So if You have a plan and you say it's good, why is this happening ...
